Peachtree is
an annual July 4th tradition. The Shepherd Center Wheelchair Division 10K
begins at 6:55am. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race 10K footrace begins at 7:30am.
STREET CLOSINGS: On
race day (July 4th), there will be a rolling close and a rolling open of
Peachtree Street. At the start area (Lenox), Peachtree closes at 5:30am.
The road closes as the race moves along and opens as the race passes. It
takes about an hour for all runners to clear the Lenox area—so that part
of Peachtree will open circa 8:30-9am. The entire race course should be
open by 11am.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Peachtree is a challenging 10,000 meter (6.2 mile) point-to-point race
that begins at Lenox Square in Buckhead. The race finishes in midtown on
10th Street at Charles Allen Drive, alongside Piedmont Park. There are
two major uphill sections: at three miles and again at five miles. The
heat and humidity, combined with the rolling nature of the course, make
this a demanding event, so train well and be prepared.
