     Volunteers are the heart of all ATC events. Listed below are the various volunteer opportunities available for the Marathon and Half Marathon. Position:  Aid Station Volunteer

Description:  Set-up, maintain, and clean-up aid station. Enjoy yourself!

 

Time Commitment:  a maximum of 5 hours on Thanksgiving Morning (Race Morning). Report to designated aid station on race day.

 

What to wear:  Aid station volunteers will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon Sweatshirt to wear on race day. Dress for the weather. Layer your clothing so as the temperature rises you will not be uncomfortable. Come prepared for anything!

 


Position:  Aid Station Delivery Volunteer

 

Description:  Deliver and pick-up aid station supplies to each station.  Enjoy yourself!

 

Time Commitment:  A maximum of 5 hours on Thanksgiving Morning (Race Morning)

 

What to wear:  Aid Station Delivery volunteers will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon Sweatshirt to wear on race day.  Dress for the weather.  Layer your clothing so as the temperature rises you will not be uncomfortable. Come prepared for anything!

 


Position:  Baggage Crew

 

Description:  Check-in Marathoners baggage at start/ finish baggage tentOff-load Half Marathon Baggage truck when it arrives from the start of the half.  Sort and stage  runner’s bags by bib number to ensure a timely baggage retrieval upon completion of the race

 

What to wear:  Baggage tent volunteers will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon Sweatshirt to wear on race day.  Dress for the weather.  Layer your clothing so as the temperature rises you will not be uncomfortable. Come prepared for anything!

 


Position:  Chip Retriever

 

Description: Retrieve the timing chip from the runner's shoe after he/she finishes the race. Place chip in bucket and return all chips to Crew Chief when chip bucket is full.

 

Time Commitment: A maximum of 5 hours on race morning. Reports to volunteer check-in at finish area.

 

What to wear: Chip Retriever volunteers will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon Sweatshirt  to wear on race day. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. 

 


Position:  Communications - Amateur (Ham) Radio Operators

 

Description:  Amateur (Ham) Radio Operators provide a layer of communications.  The primary concern of the ham radio traffic is to handle medical and course logistics communications, as well as in the event of an emergency or other unusual circumstances

 


Position:  Cone Crew

 

Description:  Place cones along the course to guide runners and vehicular traffic. These cones along with police and volunteers ensure  a safe course.

 

Time Commitment:  Maximum of 5 hours on Thanksgiving Morning (Race Morning). Cone Crew meet at a predetermined location on race morning.  They will be met by their crew chief.

 

What to wear:  Cone crews will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon sweatshirt to be worn on race day. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather as you will be outside.

 


Position:  Course Monitor

Description:  Assigned a designated area to monitor along the course to keep safe for the runners.  Keep the running area clear of pedestrians, spectators, cars, etc.  Each monitor is provided an orange safety vest and a small caution sign on race day.  The safety vest must be worn and the caution sign is used to alert oncoming traffic, pedestrians, etc., of your presence.  Enjoy yourself and cheer on the runners as they go by!  In case of an emergency, course monitors should contact the crew chief in that designated area.

Time Commitment:  Maximum of 5 hours on Thanksgiving Morning (Race Morning). Course Monitors meet at a predetermined location on the course on race morning.  They will be met by their crew chief.

What to wear:  Monitors will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon Sweatshirt to wear on race day. Dress for the weather. Layer your clothing so as the temperature rises you will not be uncomfortable. Come prepared for anything!


Position:  Expo - ATC Booth and ATC Staff Store

 

Description:  Promote the Atlanta Track Club and its events, sell ATC merchandise and provide general information regarding the ATC .

 

Time Commitment:  3-4 hour shifts. Reports to Expo Crew Chief at Intercontinental Hotel in Buckhead, 3315 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30326, (404) 946-9000

 

What to wear:  You will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon Sweatshirt to be worn during your shift(s). Wear comfortable shoes because you will be on your feet.

 


Position:  Finish Area Construction (Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day)

 

 Description:  Unload trucks at Turner Field parking lot and set up finish area on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day

 

Time Commitment:  A minimum of 2 hours from either 10:00 am – Noon or Noon – 4:00 pm

 

What to wear:  Dress comfortably and do not wear good clothes as you will be setting up the finish area.  You will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon Sweatshirt as a token of our appreciation.

 


Position:  Finish Line Area – Medal Hanger

 

Description:  Present all finishers with a medal at the end of the finish chute. Enjoy yourself!

 

Time Commitment:  A maximum of 5 hours on Thanksgiving Morning (Race Morning.). Reports to volunteer check-in at finish area.

 

What to wear:  Medal Hanger volunteers will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon Sweatshirt to wear on race day.  Dress for the weather. Layer your clothing so as the temperature rises you will not be uncomfortable. Come prepared for anything!

 


Position:  Food Distribution (Race Day)

 

Description:  Responsibilities include:  Unloading, setting-up and distributing food to the runners in the finish area.

 

Time Commitment:  A maximum of 5 hours on Thanksgiving Morning (Race Morning). Reports to volunteer check-in at finish area on race morning.

 

What to wear:  Food Distribution volunteers will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon Sweatshirt to wear on race day. Dress for the weather.  Layer your clothing so as the temperature rises you will not be uncomfortable.

 


Position:  Office/Warehouse Projects (during the week)

 

 Description:  Assist the ATC staff with event related administrative projects

 

Time Commitment:   Details to be given on a case by case basis

 

What to wear:  Casual attire at the ATC office and warehouse. You will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon Sweatshirt as a token of our appreciation

 

Position:  Packet Pick-up Volunteers

 

Description:  Distribute runners’ packets and t-shirts

 

Time Commitment:  3-4 hour shifts.  Report to Packet Pick-up Crew Chief  at Intercontinental Hotel in Buckhead, 3315 Peachtree Road Ne, Atlanta, Georgia 30326,

What to wear:  You will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon sweatshirt to be worn during your shift(s). Wear comfortable shoes because you will be on your feet.


Position: RN

 

Description: Assess & monitors runners experiencing acute health care problems near, at or after the finish line.  Work collaboratively with physicians to assure rapid re-mobilization of runners or referral for further treatment, as indicated.  Requires licensure as Registered Nurse in Georgia.

 

Time Commitment: Maximum of 5 hours on race morning, July 4th, plus 1 hour pre-race meeting to brief on protocols/assignments.

 

What to wear: Medical singlet will be provided on race morning.  Dress for weather.  Wear comfortable shoes that you do not mind getting muddy.  Fanny pack for personal belongings, etc. recommended, as there is no place to secure purses, etc.  Medical volunteers will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon Sweatshirt  to wear on race morning.

 


Position:  Runner Control Volunteers

 

Description:  Directing runners to the finish area where they can get water, drop off their baggage at the tent and eventually make their way to the start line. Enjoy yourself!

 

Time Commitment:  A maximum of 5 hours on Thanksgiving Morning (Race Morning).

 

What to wear: Runner Control Volunteers will given a Marathon/Half Marathon sweatshirt to wear on race day. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.

 


Position:  Start Volunteers (running and not running)

 

Description:  Set-up start area, given traffic and runner control, load runner belongs onto baggage truck, help line up the runners for the start and clean up the area after the race begins. Enjoy yourself!

 

Time Commitment:  Maximum of 5 hours on Thanksgiving Morning (Race Morning). Report to start of race. (North of Chamblee)

 

What to wear:  Start volunteers will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon Sweatshirt to wear on race day.  Dress for the weather.  Layer your clothing so as the temperature rises you will not be uncomfortable. Come prepared for anything!

 


Position:  Stretcher Bearers

 

Description:  Provide support to the medical team in transporting runners to medical tent when necessary.  Will require some lifting.

 

Time Commitment:  Maximum of 5 hours on Thanksgiving Morning (Race Morning). 

 

What to wear:  Start volunteers will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon Sweatshirt to wear on race day.  Dress for the weather.  Layer your clothing so as the temperature rises you will not be uncomfortable.  Come prepared for anything!

 


Position: Timers

 

Description:  Call out splits along the course.

 

Time Commitment:  A maximum of 5 hours on Thanksgiving Morning (Race Morning).

 

What to wear:  Timers will be given a Marathon/Half Marathon Sweatshirt to wear on race day. Dress for the weather. Layer your clothing so as the temperature rises you will not be uncomfortable. Come prepared for anything!


Position:  Traffic Control Volunteers

 

Description:  Direct vehicular traffic in and around runner parking and the course.  Enjoy yourself!

 

Time Commitment: A maximum of 5 hours on Thanksgiving Morning (Race Morning).

 

What to wear: Runner Control Volunteers will given a Marathon/Half Marathon sweatshirt to wear on race day.  Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.
