Atlanta Track Club Invests in Community through PNC Atlanta 10 Miler’s Adopt a Mile Program

ATLANTA, August 9, 2016 – Atlanta Track Club is recruiting local like-minded nonprofit organizations to participate in its Adopt a Mile program, held in conjunction with the PNC Atlanta 10 Miler on Sunday, October 23. Organizations are invited to “adopt” a mile along the route, create “cheer zones” and provide course entertainment. Those selected will receive a donation from Atlanta Track Club.

The application deadline for the Adopt a Mile program is Friday, August 26. Twelve organizations will be selected based on their work to improve health and fitness in the community, with a special emphasis on those serving youth. Applicants must be able to provide a minimum of 30 people on race day for course support, cheer zones and entertainment.

“The Adopt a Mile program serves two purposes: supporting other organizations in our community while providing our participants with encouragement on race day,” said Rich Kenah, Atlanta Track Club’s executive director. “We believe the excitement the program brings to the course is one of the reasons the popularity of the PNC Atlanta 10 Miler continues to grow.”

Organizations that meet the minimum requirements on race day will receive a base donation, and up to $5,000 can be earned by organizations that offer extra course support through the Adopt a Mile bonus points system. Points will be given based on categories including the number of volunteers, number of participants in the PNC Atlanta 10 Miler or 5K, creativity of the cheer zone, level of enthusiasm and cleanup efforts. Additionally, the organization voted “Best of the Best” by event participants will earn a $500 prize. More information can be found at atlantatrackclub.org/2016-atlanta-10-miler-5k.

The 12 organizations selected for the Adopt a Mile program will be notified by Atlanta Track Club by Friday, September 2. The PNC Atlanta 10 Miler, now in its fourth year, features an exciting course that starts and finishes at Atlantic Station and leads runners through Buckhead.
