ATLANTA – August 1, 2016 – Two branches of the military earned special bragging rights in connection to the 2016 AJC Peachtree Road Race. The third annual Kilometer Kids Charity Chase featured a team competition between our nation’s military branches, with Team Marine Corps and Team Air Force each claiming a victory in the two-part challenge.

In partnership with United Military Care, Team Air Force, Team Army, Team Coast Guard, Team Marine Corps and Team Navy competed in two areas: The fastest military branch to complete the AJC Peachtree Road Race and the team that received the most donations for Atlanta Track Club’s Kilometer Kids youth running program through an online fundraiser.

Team Marine Corps won the fundraising portion of the Kilometer Kids Charity Chase, with 33% of donors choosing to honor the Marine Corps with their contribution. In second place was last year’s winner, Team Navy, with 22% of the donations. All proceeds will go towards expanding the reach and accessibility of the Kilometer Kids program in metro Atlanta as part of a continued effort to encourage young people to achieve health and fitness through running.

At the AJC Peachtree Road Race, Team Air Force crossed the line first with a commanding lead to win the footrace portion of the Kilometer Kids Charity Chase. Captain Richard Elmore finished first for his team in 37:15. Team Air Force’s cumulative time was 5:09:11.

The 47th running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race took place on Monday, July 4, 2016. The AJC Peachtree Road Race is the world’s largest 10K with 60,000 participants. For more information on Kilometer Kids and the AJC Peachtree Road Race, visit atlantatrackclub.org.
