If you have a passion for running, knowledge of training and a desire to help others, then you should consider becoming an ATC volunteer coach. Below are the requirements, expectations and perks of being a volunteer coach, along with information on how to sign up.
Requirements to Become a Volunteer Coach
- Must be 25 years of age or older
- Must have appropriate fitness level for providing direction and developing written training plans
- Specify your area of coaching "distance" preference
- Must posses a knowledge of places to run for members being coached
- Have served as a coach in the following areas:
1. Participated in an Atlanta Track Club Training Program as a coach
2. Existing coach with the Member Coaching Assistance program
3. Special exception based on experience- community coach, previous coaching experience, etc.
Please note- Exceptions based on experience may apply.
Responsibilities of a Volunteer Coach
- Provide free coaching assistance- at no cost- to the members that are assigned to you
- Contact the member seeking coaching assistance within five business days of the match
- Create an appropriate training program to meet the member's needs and goals
- Attend a mandatory coaches meeting at the beginning of the year
- Communicate updates with the ATC on a monthly basis via email
- Communicate via email or phone with your training member on a regular basis
- Meet your training member in person twice during the six month period
- When applicable, schedule ATC event races as part of their training runs
- Provide a six month time commitment for each member that seeks coaching assistance through the program
