The Peachtree has remained the WORLD’S LARGEST 10K since the late 1970s.
In 1998, the field was expanded to 55,000. Over 70,000 APPLICANTS applied within 24 hours of opening on March 15.
It takes approximately 3,400 VOLUNTEERS to make the Peachtree possible.
The 55,000 runners will burn 34 MILLION CALORIES running the 6.2 mile course.
There will be more than 700 PORTABLE TOILETS rented to accommodate the runners this year.
The FASTEST MEN’S TIME in the AJC Peachtree Road Race is 27:04. The record was set by Kenya’s Joseph Kimani in 1996.
The FASTEST WOMEN’S TIME, 30:32 was set by Lornah Kiplagat of Kenya in 2002.
Gayle Barron and Lornah Kiplagat are the WINNINGEST ATHLETES in the history of the AJC Peachtree Road Race. Both women won the women’s division FIVES TIMES.
The COOLEST starting temperature on race day was 62 DEGREES in 1986 and 1989. The WARMEST was 80 degrees in 1970, ’73, ’77, ‘80, ’83 and ’91.
The record for the SHEPHERD WHEELCHAIR DIVISION of the Peachtree is held by Saul Mendoza with a time of 18:38. The WOMEN’S division record holder is Edith Hunkler 22:09.
More than 550,000 PAPER CUPS and 65,000 BOTTLES OF WATER will be used during this year’s race.
4,000 RUNNERS will participate in the OVERSEAS Peachtree editions in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.
Three women participated in the first Peachtree. Close to HALF of this year’s field of 55,000 participants are WOMEN.
Participants in the 2010 event will represent 48 STATES and the District of Columbia.
The most popular T-shirt size in 2010 is LARGE, making up 29% of the T-shirts that will be distributed on July 4.
51% of 2010 registered Peachtree participants are MALE.
The states outside of Georgia with the most participants are FLORIDA with 797, ALABAMA with 584 and TENNESSEE with 532.
Close to 6% of the 2010 participants have run Peachtree 20+ TIMES.
32% of participants in the 2010 AJC Peachtree Road Race will be running it for the FIRST TIME ever.
