The AJC Peachtree Road Race is the largest 10K in the United States.
1980: the field of runners first reached 25,000
1992: the field was expanded to 45,000
1994: the field was expanded to 50,000. 62,000 + applicants vied for the spots within 48 hours of opening.
1998: the field was expanded to 55,000. Over 70,000 applicants applied within 24 hours of opening on March 15 for these spots.
Approximately 3,200 volunteers make the AJC Peachtree Road Race possible.
The 55,000 runners will burn 34 million calories running the 6.2 mile course.
There will be close to 600 portable toilets to accommodate the runners this year.
The fastest men's time in the AJC Peachtree Road Race is 27:04. The record was set by Kenya's Joseph Kimani in 1996.
The fastest women's time is 30:32 set by Lornah Kiplagat of Kenya in 2002.
The record for the wheelchair division of the AJC Peachtree Road Race is held by Saul Mendoza with a time of 18:38. The women's division record holder is Amanda McGrory with a time of 23:11.
Gayle Barron is the winningest athlete in the history of the AJC Peachtree Road Race. She won in the women's division in 1970, '71, '73, '74 and '75.
The coolest starting temperature on race day was 62 degrees in 1986 and 1989. The warmest was 80 degrees in 1970, '73, '77, ' 80, '83 and '91.
More than 500,000 recyclable paper cups and 65,000 bottles of water will be used to hydrate runners during this year's race.
Over 27,500 votes were cast in the 2009 AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt Design Contest.
