Start Wave Placement

New for 2010, start assignments for the AJC Peachtree Road Race will be performance based. Event participants will have the opportunity to submit a finish time from a past race during registration, and will be placed in the appropriate start wave based on their time. Assigning start positions based on performance will enhance every participant’s experience by easing congestion at the start line as well as along the course.

Things to know about the new start assignments:

  • Participants wishing to run in the top-seeded wave will need to submit their finish time from the 2009 Peachtree or any USATF certified race - 10K, 5K, 5M/8K, 15K, 10M or 13.1M distance - run on or after January 1, 2008. View top-seeded wave time standards
  • Participants wishing to run in the sub-seeded or open waves can submit their finish time from the 2009 Peachtree or USATF certified race - 10K, 5K, 5M/8K, 15K, 10M or 13.1M distance - run on January 1, 2008 or after. View time standards for sub-seeded and open start waves.
  • Those registering online who wish to submit a finish time from a past race will need to provide the race name, date and net finish time (chip time).
  • Those filling out the paper application from the AJC for the lottery will need to include printed proof of a finish time with your Peachtree application.  Acceptable forms of proof of finish time includes - photocopy or the official results card from the race; newspaper results with name and time highlighted (photocopies accepted); or a printout of the results page from the race website with race name, participant name and time highlighted.
  • Results from any U.S. or international race of 5K through half marathon on a course certified by USATF or other national body are acceptable.
  • Participants who don’t submit a time during registration will be randomly placed in one of the last start waves.
  • Times must be submitted at the time of registration. They will not be accepted or changed after registration has been submitted.
  • All times submitted will be verified by the Atlanta Track Club.  If times cannot be verified, participants will be randomly placed in one of the last start waves.
  • Race day start times for each wave will be published in late spring.
