New Firefighter 5K, hosted by Atlanta's Bravest, Set for September 7

ATLANTA — May 2, 2024 — Atlantans will soon have the opportunity to show their support for Atlanta's Bravest by taking to the streets in the inaugural Firefighter 5K.

The family-friendly event is set to become an annual tradition, run each year on the Saturday before September 11. This year, it will be held on September 7. Registration is now open here.

"I am honored to host the city's inaugural Firefighter 5K, presented by Atlanta's Bravest," said Taos Wynn, President & CEO, Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation. "This event, in partnership with the Atlanta Track Club, represents the next level of intentional community engagement between the unsung heroes of our city and the communities they serve. By creating an annual Firefighter 5K event, we are providing residents from across the Metro Atlanta region the opportunity to support and run alongside city first responders. It is a fun and impactful way to support Atlanta Fire Rescue Department firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs to showcase our appreciation for their tireless efforts to keep our city safe."

The new event was unveiled today by the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation at its annual Breakfast With Our Bravest, which recognized extraordinary members of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department and significant contributors to the department's and foundation's success.

"The Firefighter 5K isn't just a race; it's a symbol of our commitment to community safety and support," said Roderick M. Smith, fire chief, Atlanta Fire Rescue Department. "This event holds deep significance for the department, fostering unity, promoting wellness, and honoring the brave men and women who serve tirelessly. By participating, you're not only supporting our firefighters but also investing in the well-being of our city. It's a chance to run with purpose, to celebrate our heroes, and to make a tangible difference in our community."

The Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation is the only 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the men and women of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, supporting workforce development and community initiatives.

Atlanta Track Club is partnering with Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation to produce the event.

"The firefighters and medics of Atlanta Fire generously offer their time and talents on Publix Atlanta Marathon Weekend and at the AJC Peachtree Road Race every year," said Rich Kenah, CEO. "They help keep the participants, as well as the neighborhoods through which we conduct our events, safe. By partnering with the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation on the Firefighter 5K, we hope to spotlight the good work of Atlanta's Bravest and say 'thank you' on behalf of Running City USA."
