Join the Atlanta Track Club for the 20th annual Atlanta Ekiden Team Relay on Sunday, September 26 at 8 a.m. in Piedmont Park. Ekiden is a long-distance relay that originated in Japan in the 17th century. The Atlanta Ekiden Team Relay combines aspects of the traditional ekiden relay such as the passing of the sash between team members at exchange zones with fun elements such as awards for the best team name, T-shirt and tent set-up.

Registration: Register Online.

Entry Fee: $120 (non-refundable) per team through 11:59 p.m. on 9/7/10

                    $140 (non-refundable) per team 9/8/10 - 11:59 p.m. on 9/22/10

Packet Pick-Up: September 26, 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 a.m., in Piedmont Park. All team members’ packets must be picked up together by the team captain or representative. Ekiden sashes will be distributed at packet pick-up.

Teams: Each team must be made up of four to six members and fall into one of the team divisions.

Course: The total distance of the Atlanta Ekiden Team Relay is approximately 30 km with each leg of the relay being around 3.1 miles. The course runs through Piedmont Park and the surrounding neighborhood. Each individual of a six-member team runs one leg of the course which starts near the Charles Allen Gate. Teams with four or five members will be required to complete the total distance by having some members run more than one leg. Teams must be able to complete the total distance in less than 3.5 hours.

Awards: All participants will receive a T-shirt. Teams that finish in the top 25% of their division will receive a mug for each team member. For example, if there are 20 teams in the Men’s Open Division, awards will be given to the top five teams. Awards will also be given for the Best Team Name (most creative), the Best Team T-shirt and Best Tent Set-Up. (Keep in mind this is a family event.)
