ATLANTA, August 27, 2015 – Atlanta Track Club has expanded its Adopt a Mile program during the Atlanta 10 Miler for 2015. Thirteen organizations will receive a donation from Atlanta Track Club for “adopting” a mile along the race course on Sunday, October 25. Approximately $60,000 will be awarded among the participating organizations.
The organizations were selected based on their work to improve health and fitness in the metro Atlanta community through walking and running, with a special emphasis on those serving youth. Participating groups will bring at least 30 people on race day for course support, cheer zones and entertainment. The number of cheer zones was increased from 10 to 13 for the 2015 Atlanta 10 Miler after the event doubled in size in its second year.
“The Atlanta 10 Miler’s Adopt a Mile program is an example of how Atlanta Track Club partners with like-minded organizations throughout the year,” said Rich Kenah, executive director of Atlanta Track Club. “We enjoy providing visibility and resources to organizations that share our passion for creating an active and healthy Atlanta, and our participants appreciate having the enhanced experience that these organizations provide at the Atlanta 10 Miler.”
Up to $5,000 can be earned by organizations that offer extra course support through the Adopt a Mile bonus points system. Points will be given based on categories including the number of volunteers, number of participants in the Atlanta 10 Miler or 5K, creativity of the cheer zone, level of enthusiasm and cleanup efforts. Additionally, the organization voted “Best of the Best” by event participants will earn a $500 prize. The 2015 Adopt a Mile program participants are:
