Adopt a Mile program to fund local health and fitness nonprofits

Atlanta Track Club is recruiting local nonprofit organizations to participate in its Adopt a Mile program, held in conjunction with the Atlanta 10 Miler, on Sunday, October 26. Organizations are invited to “adopt” a mile along the route, creating “cheer zones” and providing course entertainment, in exchange for a donation from Atlanta Track Club.

The application deadline for the Adopt a Mile program is Friday, August 22. Organizations will be selected based on their work to improve health and fitness in the community through running and walking, with a special emphasis on those serving youth. Applicants must be able to provide a minimum of 30 people on race day for course support, cheer zones and entertainment.

“The mission of Atlanta Track Club is to create an active and healthy Atlanta through running and walking, and that includes supporting like-minded organizations,” said Rich Kenah, executive director of Atlanta Track Club. “We’re proud that our partners work with us to amplify our efforts and enhance the race day experience for our participants.”

Organizations that meet the minimum requirements on race day will receive a base donation of $1,000.  Up to $5,000 can be earned by organizations that offer extra course support through the Adopt a Mile bonus points system. Points will be given based on categories including the number of volunteers, number of participants in the Atlanta 10 Miler or 5K, creativity of the cheer zone, level of enthusiasm and cleanup efforts. Additionally, the organization voted “Best of the Best” by event participants will earn a $500 prize. More information can be found at under “Atlanta 10 Miler & 5K”.

The 10 organizations selected for the Adopt a Mile program will be notified by Atlanta Track Club by Friday, August 29. The Atlanta 10 Miler, now in its second year, features an exciting new course for 2014 that starts and finishes at Atlantic Station and leads runners through Buckhead.
