Atlanta Track Club Recognizes Top High School Athletes at All-Metro Track and Field Awards Banquet
ATLANTA – June 2, 2016 – Atlanta Track Club honored 44 of the best runners, jumpers and throwers in metro Atlanta at the All-Metro Track and Field Awards Banquet on Wednesday, June 1 at The Stave Room. Since 1964, Atlanta Track Club has hosted the All-Metro Awards Banquet as part of its commitment to recognize outstanding high school track and field and cross country athletes.
The All-Metro athletes were selected based on criteria including major meet wins, performance at the state meet and a complete season overview. The coaches and the community then voted for the Most Outstanding Track Athlete and Most Outstanding Field Athlete, which were announced at the banquet.
“Georgia is home to some of the best student athletes in the country, and the 2016 All-Metro High School Track and Field Team showcases that talent,” said Rich Kenah, Atlanta Track Club’s executive director. “Atlanta Track Club is proud to celebrate the accomplishments of the year’s best runners, jumpers and throwers.”
One boy and one girl were named Most Outstanding Track Athlete and Most Outstanding Field Athlete. Each recipient received a $1,500 scholarship. The 2016 Most Outstanding Athletes are:
Most Outstanding Track Athletes
Male: Frank Pittman, Marist
Female: Makenzie Dunmore, McEachern High
Most Outstanding Field Athletes
Male: Isaiah Rogers, Campbell High
Female: Nia Seldon, Marietta High
Two coaches were also acknowledged for their outstanding dedication to the sport of track and field. Coach Dennis Green of Dacula High School received the Hawthorne Wesley Award for his work with the girls track and field team, while Coach Matt Henson of Parkview High School’s boys track and field team was the recipient of the Judo Brown Award.
In addition to awards, two $2,500 scholarships were presented by Atlanta Track Club and The Atlanta Track Club Foundation to local track and field seniors who excelled during their high school career. The 7th Annual Patty Foell Scholarship Award was presented to Tiffany Yue of Northview High School. The 3rd Annual Hawthorne Wesley Scholarship Award was presented Tariq Bradford of Southwest DeKalb High School.
The event was emceed by Lewis Johnson, an Olympic track and field analyst for NBC Sports. “Dream big in all areas of your life,” Johnson told the high school athletes. “Be proud of what you accomplish.”
