The most difficult obstacle Dave had to face to keep his streak alive: "Well the streak almost never started because in October of 2006, I underwent surgery for cancer followed by 16 days of radiation - 5 months later however in March, 2007 I ran the Inaugural "ING" Georgia Marathon.

An even greater challenge came after I donated a kidney to my brother in September of 2011, but six months later in March, 2012 I was able to keep the streak alive by finishing the "Publix" Georgia Marathon.

So I like to say: I have run the Georgia Marathon when I was single and now married...when I had cancer and when I did not...and when I had two kidneys and when I had one!"
