Keeping the Streak Alive: My streak would have ended had it not been for the 5k. I was training for the half marathon but was diagnosed with a rare medical condition that required me to take medication every 45 minutes. My plan was to carry the medication during the half marathon and take it every 45 minutes. My doctors advised against it because my immune system was weak and I needed a clean, sterile environment to take the meds. With the 5k, I was able to follow the doctors' orders and keep my streak alive.

Favorite Memory: There were a few years where I walked most of the half marathon. I wasn't worried about time and really enjoyed the spectators and scenery.

Inaugural Event: I signed up for the inaugural 2007 marathon when a friend told me about it. I had run my first marathon a few years earlier and was ready to run another one. And this race was at home - no flights or hotel bookings needed.
