This Ain't My First Rodeo

Overall great performances for our masters. It is worth noting that we had several athletes state that this was not their first time competing at the National Senior Games. We also had several athletes doubling down on events. Joel Dubow, age 79, was the oldest competitor in his age group (75-79). He placed 6th in both the 1500m race walk and 5000m race walk. This was his 11th National Senior Games. Steve Meredith, age 68, while new to racewalking, won a bronze medal in the 1500m Race Walk. This was his 3rd National Senior Games. Clovis Clark, age 66, competed in four events. She won a silver medal in the hammer throw, placed 5th in the triple jump, and 9th place in the shot put and discus. Clark's highlight of the event was getting back on the field and competing after a three year absence. Trenice Mullis-Dubow, age 68, placed 6th in the 800m and 7th in 1500m. Robert Fowler, age 73, placed 4th in the 5000m race walk and 6th in the 1500m race walk.

Chasing Gold

Making his first National Senior Games, David Henry, Jr., age 52, claimed double gold in the 200m and 400m. He plans to defend his 200m and 400m titles at the National Senior Games in Pittsburgh in 2023. Susan Aderhold, age 74, won gold in the 800m. Kevin Paulk, age 61, won both the 800m and 1500m. Both were highly tactical races and were won by a matter of seconds. In the 800m, Paulk, won by 0.08 seconds and in the 1500m by 0.36 seconds. Paulk shared comments following his third National Senior Games appearance, "winning gold for both of my races was the highlight sprinkled with the fact that each race 800m & 1500m was tactical championship racing won merely by 0.08 secs and 0.14 secs. The heat and humidity made warming up a challenge. I plan to race at USATF Nationals, but before I do, I have been invited to the Masters Elite 800m during USATF World Championships Qualifying June 26th at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon."
