Becoming a Runner: Getting the hang of it and starting to like it!

A selfie from the morning workout

ATLANTA – January 25, 2017 –Atlanta Track Club Intern Shana is taking up running and walking for the first time. In an attempt to get fit and lose weight, she has joined Atlanta Track Club’s Spring 5K In-Training program and is participating in a 12-week meal plan with Good Measure Meals. This is her weekly update on her training.

Can you believe this is the 4th week already? As I take a step back and look at how things have evolved over the last 4 weeks, I am amazed at all the habits I have picked up.  Let's do a little recap of where I was: Eating one meal a day, no portion control, and only exercising consistently in my mind.  As we enter into this 4th week, I can say that I'm now eating 3 balanced meals a day. I'm exercising more, and I can identify what a healthy portion is.  Alissa at Good Measure Meals has been a strong supporter in helping me accomplish these goals.  As the weekend approaches we discuss healthy meal options and recap what a portion looks like for the various types of food groups.  Even in traveling, she made sure I was equipped with recipes to try once I got to my destination! While some days are better than others, I'm making improvements and I believe that I am in a better place than I was. This is a journey, and it’s not finished yet!

A coworker told this morning she could tell that I was getting addicted to the process! As much as I have tried to fight it, the burn from the workout is starting to feel a little good.  Before a workout and during I feel like I can’t breath and that end is so far away, but after as I’m walking through the office or driving home the satisfaction of being able to say I’ve completed a workout is so amazing! While I’m not where I want to be overall, the aches and pains must mean I’m headed in the right direction right?

4 weeks down, and some will say forever to go, but I will just say more goals to accomplish!
