Recently in our masters, members in our 50s, 60s,70s, and 80s competed on Saturday, May 21st, in Rochester, NY, in the USATF Masters Mile. As described by one member the course was tight and consisted of ten turns.
Atlanta Track Club did had two scoring Women's Teams (50s and 70s;) and four scoring Men's Teams (50s, 60s, 70s, 80s) at the Masters Mile. Even with flight changes and some team members only arriving 30 minutes before the start, teams left with three Gold medals (Women's 70s, Men's 70s and 80s) and a Bronze (Men's 60s) in an extremely competitive race.
The gun times of top the three finishers of each team is totaled to determine Team score. Our men's 70s Team beat Boulder by one second to take the Gold, literally one slight pause difference. That is about as close as it gets. The Men's 70s Team has had a scoring Team at all seven Grand Prix Events this year with only two remaining in the fall. Their best five races will determine their place at the end of the year.
Our Men's 80+ team won their division at the USATF Masters Mile in Rochester NY on May 21 with a combined time of 35:50. Adrian Craven won the individual 85-89 age group in 10:40, Sid Davis was second in 14:24, while Andrew Sherwood placed third in the 80-84 age group in 10:46.
This is Atlanta Track Clubs third victory in the USATF LDR Grand Prix this year, giving us a total of 300 points. So far no other team has won more than 100 points. With only two races to go, any points scored in either of the remaining races will put us out of reach of any competitor.
Atlanta Track Club had eight Individual medal winners at the Rochester Mile this Weekend:
Gold: Andrea McCarter (75-79) 10:52; Adrian Craven (85-89) 10:45 Silver: Catherine Radle (75-79) 10:57; Ken Youngers (65-69) 5:30; Dave Glass (75-79) 6:37; Sid Davis (85-89) 14:29 Bronze: Norma Hudnall (70-74) 8:01; Andrew Sherwood (80-84) 10:50
